What this episode covers

The most famous sentence in American history is also the most misquoted, because it is almost never finished. "All men are created equal" is only half of it. The claim rests on the next words: "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights." This episode shows why that grounding is not decoration but the load-bearing wall of the whole argument. If rights come from the Creator, then no government that failed to grant them can justly take them away. Pull the Creator out, and the claim that all are created equal has nothing left to stand on. Papa and Grandma Rita trace how a principle written larger than the men who signed it became a standard the nation itself could later be held to, a promise that outran its authors and could be appealed to by those it had not yet reached. Behind it all stands the truth that man is made in the image of God, the bedrock the country was built to stand on. Drawn from the certified GraceHaven Academy American History course, the episode reads the Declaration closely and shows why its power is finally theological before it is political.
